 COMMITTEES
AfroCAB feels that all members must actively participate in the CAB. To encourage participation, it was agreed that work groups or committees be set up as follows:

Resource mobilisation and management

Main task: to support and assist the secretariat with raising and managing resources of the AfroCAB.

 Networking, advocacy and communication

Key tasks – to support liaison with other relevant stakeholders, set up AfroCAB meetings with pharmaceutical companies and other stakeholders and support internal and external AfroCAB communication.

Scientific and policy implementation committee

  • monitor ongoing research and provide feedback to AfroCAB members,
  • Follow-up on data and outcomes such as safety and efficacy of approved medicines ;
  • dissemination of research results
  • draft and circulate position papers for adoption and advocacy or adaptation in the AFROCAB member countries.
  • Review research protocols and provide advice guidance on AfroCAB position to the ESC.
  • Monitor and ensure high ethical compliance, research literacy of research sites and participation of communities in research trials.

Membership committee

Oversee membership issues. These will include:

  • recruitment of new members,
  • set criteria for recruitment of new members,
  • provide training and orientation for new members,
  • resolve any conflicts within the AfroCAB,
  • manage and set conflict of interest and confidentiality standards and compliance,
  • handle all disciplinary matters and hearings

Composition and role of the committees:

Resource mobilisation and management –to assist the secretariat with raising and managing resources of the AfroCAB. Mpendwa, Oba, Bactrin, Nikos

Networking, advocacy and communication – to liaise with other relevant stakeholders, set up meetings with pharmaceutical companies and act as focal points for all internal and external AFROCAB communications. Paul Moses, Constance, GK, Wim

Scientific and policy implementation committee – mapping of proposed or on-going research, provide feedback to other members, collect data on safety and efficacy of approved medicines and draft and circulate position papers for adoption by the AFROCAB. Tapiwa, Stephen, Elyse, Proscovia, Caroline

Membership committee – to set out criteria for recruitment of new members, to recruit new members, provide training for new members and resolve any conflicts, conflict of interest monitoring within the AfroCAB. Kibet, Albertina, Violeth, Andre, Tendai
